The Malta Business Registry wishes to announce that following the retirement of the current Registrar, Mr. Joseph Farrugia, the Minister for the Economy and Industry Silvio Schembri has appointed Dr. Geraldine Spiteri Lucas as the new registrar at the Malta Business Registry.
Dr. Geraldine Spiteri Lucas, currently the MBR’s Chief Legal Officer, will assume the position of Registrar following Mr. Farrugia’s retirement. Mr. Joseph Farrugia was appointed Registrar at the Malta Business Registry in April 2019.
Dr. Geraldine Spiteri Lucas graduated in Doctor of Laws from the University of Malta in 2010 and few months later obtained her warrant to practice in the Maltese Courts. She read Masters in European and Comparative Law, graduating in 2012. She started her career with a leading local law firm, advising local and international clients on civil, commercial, corporate, shipping and aviation law. She also represented various clients in litigation procedures before Tribunals and local Courts. She is also a member of the board of examiners for the Department of Commercial Law of the University of Malta.
Dr. Spiteri Lucas will now be responsible for the overall management and performance of the Registry, as well as the strategy development and implementation of the Business Register. Moreover, Dr. Geraldine Spiteri Lucas played a pivotal role in bringing about key changes within the entity that were crucial in updating the registry in line with european and international criterias. Dr. Spiteri Lucas expressed her gratitude towards the work done by Mr. Farrugia and emphasized the need to continue the high-quality work of her predecessor. ‘As Registrar, I will continue to ensure that the Malta Business Registry keeps following on the great strides achieved over the past few years and continue establishing itself as an important key player within the regulatory environment‘ said Spiteri Lucas.
In view of these changes, Minister for the Economy and Industry Silvio Schembri augured Dr. Geraldine Spiteri Lucas for her new role and thanked Mr. Joseph Farrugia for the tremendous work done during the most challenging times of the MBR.‘ The Malta Business Registry is set to embark on an interesting journey that shall strengthen its role in enhancing transparency and due diligence in the best interest of the Maltese jurisdiction’ said Minister Schembri.
