About the Malta Business Registry (MBR)
The Malta Business Registry, established under Subsidiary Legislation 497.27, is responsible for the registration of new commercial partnerships, the registration of documents related to commercial partnership, the issuing of certified documentation including certificates of good-standing amongst others, the reservation of company names, the collection of registration and other fees, the publication of notices and the imposition and collection of penalties. The MBR also conducts investigations of companies and the keeping of the company and partnership register.
The eventual appointee will be appointed at a Senior Professional Officer level (Salary starting from EUR 35,600) and will report to the Official Receiver. The Individual selected for this role will be expected to support the Official Receiver in carrying out the following tasks:
- Administer an estate or business of a company, or other commercial partnership undergoing restructuring or winding up procedures;
- Meet company/partnership officials for a handover of information and possession of property;
- File and defend court proceedings in relation to companies/partnerships;
- Safeguard and enforce the companies’/partnerships’ rights;
- Pro-actively endeavour to provide companies/partnerships in a likelihood of insolvency with a chance to restructure and, in turn, survive;
- Provide legal support in line with the Units strategic and legal objectives;
- Provide timely, accurate and focused legal information to superiors;
- Propose practical legal solutions to issues that arise on a dayto-day basis;
- Liaise with the Research Unit to plan, coordinate and execute research activities related to Malta’s EU-wide positioning in regard to the efficiency of insolvency frameworks;
- Continuously liaise with relevant stakeholders, including official public authorities such as the Police and the FIAU and other foreign entities;
- Demonstrate a good understanding of Maltese and European legislation; and
- Any other related duties as management may assign from time to time.
We are looking for candidates with a University of Malta Legal Degree (LL.D) or equivalent academic qualification in a relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC)* or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level. Applicants must also be in possession of a warrant to practice the legal profession in Malta, and also possess a minimum of five (5) years working experience in a related area. Candidates with longer working experience relevant to the role will be preferred.
*It is the responsibility of applicants in possession of qualifications awarded by Universities and other similar institutions outside Malta to produce a recognition statement on comparability of qualifications issued by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC). Applicants should do so preferably at application stage or otherwise at the preliminary interview should an applicant be selected for such interview.
