About the Malta Business Registry (MBR)

The Malta Business Registry, established under Subsidiary Legislation 595.27, is responsible for the registration of new commercial partnerships, the registration of documents related to commercial partnership, the issuing of certified documentation including certificates of good-standing amongst others, the reservation of company names, the collection of registration and other fees, the publication of notices and the imposition and collection of penalties.  The Registry also conducts investigations of companies and the keeping of the company and partnership register.

The Role

The Junior Analyst in Grade 7 (starting salary from €24,051) will be expected to assist the Head of the Unit in his endeavour to ensure the compliance of the regulatory measures emanating from the Companies Act and Companies Act (Register of Beneficial Owners) Regulations. The job holder will be required to:

  1. Visit local companies, as part of an outreach programme, and ensure that these companies are compliant with the regulations emanating from the Companies Act and the Companies Act (Register of Beneficial Owners) Regulations;
  2. Prepare reports to the Head of the Unit in relation to findings of the visits and recommend required action;
  3. Involved in independent investigations which can lead to an onsite inspection or investigations which emanate from an onsite inspection. The employee will be responsible in recommending to the Head of the unit an appropriate action to address any necessary remedial actions identified during the course of such investigations and liaise with the legal unit for the enforcement of such action;
  4. Continuously liaise with client to collect the pending penalties and issue enforcement notices accordingly;
  5. Involved in the verification process of the officials involved in companies being registered in Malta in accordance with the Companies Act;
  6. Assist the Head of the Unit in preparing reports for top management review;
  7. Assist the Head of the Unit in striking off companies in accordance with section 325 of the Companies Act / section 98 of the Merchant Shipping Regulation; and
  8. Continuously liaise with the Legal Unit in cases needing legal enforcement.

Furthermore s/he will be expected to assist in other duties as may be directed from time to time either by the Head of the Unit or by any other official to whom the Head’s authority is delegated.

Any other duties described above may change depending on the exigencies of the Unit and/or the MBR.


About You

(i) Preference will be given to candidates who posses a University of Malta Degree in Accounting or Risk Management or Banking & Finance or in Legal (L.L.D) or equivalent academic qualification in a relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC)* or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level; OR

(ii) Consideration will also be given to Candidates with an NQF Level 5 Diploma in a related area and three (3) years prior work experience in an assistant managerial role within a related area; OR

(iii) Candidates who at least possess five (5) years’ prior experience in an assistant managerial role within a related area. 

* It is the responsibility of applicants in possession of qualifications awarded by Universities and other similar institutions outside Malta to produce a recognition statement on comparability of qualifications issued by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC). Appeal Procedure
