About the Malta Business Registry (MBR)

The Malta Business Registry, established under Subsidiary Legislation 497.27, is responsible for the registration of new commercial partnerships, the registration of documents related to commercial partnership, the issuing of certified documentation including certificates of good-standing amongst others, the reservation of company names, the collection of registration and other fees, the publication of notices and the imposition and collection of penalties.  The Registry also conducts investigations of companies and the keeping of the company and partnership register.


The Role

The eventual appointee will be appointed at a Senior Analyst in Grade 7 level reporting to the Registrar (Chief Executive Officer) or to any other official to whom the Registrar/CEO’s authority is delegated and will be entrusted with responsibilities relating to the following duties which shall include:

  • Identify, assess and document risks through regular assessments, workshops, and consultation with the MBR’s Units;
  • Maintain a centralised Risk Register to record, assess, and prioritise risks based on likelihood and impact;
  • Continuously monitor key risks and controls, updating the Risk Register regularly.
  • Prepare periodic risk reports for Senior Management;
  • Recommend actions to mitigate, transfer, or accept risks in line with the Agency’s risk appetite;
  • Collaborate with Unit Heads to ensure effective implementation and follow-up of risk mitigation plans;
  • Develop, implement and maintain the Risk Management Framework, including related policies, procedures and tools;
  • Ensure that risk management is integrated into strategic planning, operational, and project management;
  • Promote a risk awareness culture by providing training, support and guidance to staff across all MBR Units;
  • Foster collaboration with the Internal Audit Unit to ensure a coordinated approach to assurance and compliance;
  • Be in charge to oversee all the deadlines, of the Agency, imposed by Foreign and local obligations and ensuring that these are implemented in time by providing the required plans to minimise the risk of not adhering to the deadlines; and
  • Monitor external developments, including legislative, regulatory, and sectoral changes, that may affect the Agency’s risk profile.

Any other duties described above may change depending on the exigencies of the Intelligence Management Unit and/or the MBR.

Furthermore s/he will be expected to assist in other duties as may be directed from time to time by the Registrar/CEO or by any other official to whom the Registrar/CEO’s authority is delegated.


About You

(i) We are looking for candidates who possess a University of Malta Degree in Accounting or Banking & Finance or in Law (LL.D) academic qualification or an equivalent qualification in a relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 7 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC)* or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level; AND also possess a minimum of three (3) years working experience in a related area; OR

(ii) Candidates who possess a University of Malta Degree in Accounting or Banking & Finance or in Law (LL.D) academic qualification or an equivalent qualification in a relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC)* or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level; AND also possess a minimum of four (4) years working experience in a related area; OR

(iii) Candidates who at least possess eight (8) years’ working experience in a related area.

* It is the responsibility of applicants in possession of qualifications awarded by Universities and other similar institutions outside Malta to produce a recognition statement on comparability of qualifications issued by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC). Applicants should do so preferably at application stage or otherwise at the preliminary interview should an applicant be selected for such interview.

Appeal Procedure

If a candidate considers that s/he has been adversely affected by a particular decision, s/he can lodge a complaint within one (1) month from the time the candidate is notified of the application/interview feedback, addressed to the MBR Chief Operations Officer, AM Business Centre, Triq il-Labour, Zejtun ZTN 2401.
